God has a way of shaking things up. And in the process, we as a people get shaken up pretty good as well. If you have a discerning spirit, then you would know that God is up to something big. Whenever a shift or a transition took place, God literally caused the ground to quake and the mountains to shake. When Jesus died on the cross and also after Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit fell on those in the upper room, Christians were emboldened to spread the gospel despite the threats and dangers they may have encountered (Matthew 2:51; Acts 4:31).
There was nothing coincidental about the seismic activity that accompanied these two events. There was nothing subtle about either of them. The sudden passing of three individuals within the last 6 to 8 weeks has alerted me and reminded me that God is doing something in the earth realm. I was reminded yesterday, by the aid of the Holy Spirit that with the coming of fall comes the harvesting of those things that have been planted by farmers. But also with the fall, comes the changing of the leaves and the falling/dying of them as well. They become crunchy and lawn mowers grind and mulch them up in to ashes.
The coming of fall reminded evoked a vision of God harvesting the souls that He has called home. They have been plucked up and drawn away from family and friends. They have been harvested at the place where they have fallen asleep and carried away to be taken to their final resting place in the earth. As a Christian we do not mourn as those who have no hope, but nonetheless, when a loved one or friend is called home, it hurts. It matters not if they had a long standing illness or if they suddenly became ill and died.
We are never prepared for death! We are never at ease with our loved ones being snatched away abruptly from us. I just believe that the Lord is calling his children home at an alarming rate. So it is in the natural with harvest time, so it is in the spirit. God is shaking us up with these sudden deaths and interruptions of people’s plans, dreams and destinies. Our carnal mind asserts that: “It was not their time, they left so much undone, they had so much to look forward to; their business, ministry, or marriage just got started!” We are left with a lump in our throat and are forced to swallow what has just been dished out to us.
We have more questions than answers. But we know that God is sovereign and He can do what He chooses and does not have to ask our permission. Saints, we need to pay attention. The ground may not be physically shaking, but God is certainly doing some shaking. Political alliances, financial systems, and ethical standards are deteriorating. Nothing seems to be black and white anymore. 50 shades of gray seem to be the norm. We are seeing the decay in the family structure, the watering down of the gospel message in the church, blatant racism rearing its ugly head and a plethora of other issues pertinent to our fragile democracy and way of life. Families, churches, local, state and our federal government are failing the majority of its citizens. Families are in crisis, and many marriages are breaking up under pressures without and within.
Sadly, people have built their lives on things that are flimsy and cannot stand up to the pressures of life. They have based their lives on human wisdom, goodness, and ingenuity. But there is only one secure source and foundation that can sustain us. We must build our hope on things that are eternal, solid, and dependable. That source, that rock, that foundation, is Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. God always has a way of getting our attention. Shute, he is using Donald Trump to get our attention in this year’s presidential election. And we had better pay attention. God might just let us have a Trump presidency to get us back to prayer and seeking the face of God!!!
We have reached critical mass in a lot of areas in society. But God has ordered our steps. He has a purpose for his church. He is shaking our churches out of apathy, and selfishness. Right now He is reminding us that we cannot depend on the government, leadership, or any other temporary structures that are man made. We are to rest upon the firm foundation of God’s promises, his steadfast, unchanging love and salvation. As His called out people on earth, and the only ones standing on firm ground, we have the duty of offer real hope to those whose foundation is shaky. We cannot depend on our jobs, government, or even religion. Those things cannot give a person long term security.
But a relationship with Jesus Christ is the only lasting refuge that we have. There is a familiar hymn that ends by saying: “Build your hope on things eternal, hold to God’s unchanging hand.” So, my friend, it is time to take care of God’s business. Time is getting short. Stop procrastinating, stop making excuses, stop saying, Pokey can do it, stop saying you are not smart enough, etc. I always say, “If you take care of God’s business, he will take care of yours.
The problem in the text named above, is that the people had started rebuilding the Temple of the Lord, and then they stopped. They got distracted and started building their own houses. What is distracting you from getting back to doing what God called, purposed, destined you to do? Time is short; it is later than you think!! Just do it, even if you have to do it afraid. There is a shaking coming of which we have never experienced before.
Theses sudden upheavals in our lives are just the tip of the iceberg. But we know that we do not have to fear death, or anything else that enemy throws our way. I read the end of the Book! WE WIN!!! But don’t be foolish, the Lord gives us warnings and he is shaking things up so that you and I will get on point and do it now. I do not want to die full!! I want to die empty! I want to be poured out for the Lord. I want to accomplish the things he has predesignated me to do.
He is the one that determines if I completed the task He assigned. Many of us would say that Pastor Ruth and Missionary Estelle and Jennifer had not completed their assignments. But only God can answer that question. Whatever you do, read the Word of God. That is our GPS for such a time as this. It is better to be safe than sorry. A word to the wise is sufficient.
God Bless and Don’t Forget To Say Your Prayers. Pray for those who have recently lost a loved one before you go to sleep tonight.
