Scripture: 2 Corinthians 2:15 "\We are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ."
God has given us five senses. One of these senses, the sense of smell has a tendency to bring back memories most vividly and sharply. The smell of a freshly cut lawn, the smell of my apple pie baking in the oven. The smell of my mom's fried chicken permeating all through the house, the smell of my granddaughters after they have been bathed, lotion ed-up and sprinkled with baby powder; the smell of fresh pine, reminding us that Christmas is right around the corner. These are memorable scents that bring back memories of your youth, and other pivotal moments of your life.
Paul is saying, forget Estee Lauder, Coco Channel, Oscar De-La Renta! Your life and my life should be so permeated with God's presence that people around you and me pick up the scent of it. After all, you and I are the most compelling evidence there is that Jesus is alive and well in His children. As Christians, what aroma do we bring into the church, your ministry meetings, choir rehearsals, work place environment, restaurants, just to name a few?
The fragrance of Christ is not something that can be bought, and placed in a bottle or a jar. When we spend a lot of time with someone, we begin to think and act like that person. Someone coined the phrase: "Birds of a feather, flock together." Spending time with Jesus will help us spread a pleasing fragrance to those around us.
As Christians, when the gospel is preached, believed, obeyed and applied, it is a pleasing fragrance to God. If there is chaos in a room or particular place where you need to enter, your very presence should cause a shift to take place in the atmosphere. Your fragrance will either bring peace and calm to the situation, or it will bring more descent and confusion.
In Rome there are many elegant cathedrals with amazing stained-glass windows, each portraying an important event in the life of Christ. And that is okay. But the truth is, God doesn't need church windows to tell His story!!! He is looking for tuned on, turnt-up Christians to do that!!! It's been said that the longer a husband and wife live together, the more they start to look, act and talk alike. And it is the same with us. The more time we spend thinking about Jesus, talking to Him, meditating on His Word and basking in His presence, the more people are going to want to Know,
"What's that scent you are wearing?" I perceive that you have been with JESUS!!!"
