Do you have a will? Is the will up to date, or do you have you wishes, desires, statement of what you plan to give to this one or that one on a piece of scratch paper? Let me help you with this people, saints, and friends. Everyone needs to have a will. Adults that are single or married need to do a will. Young married couples with children need to have a will for themselves and insurance to cover their children in case, God forbid, they die in childhood. There is much anguish that is cause with the death of a loved one, without having the absence of a will and life insurance, being an albatross hanging around your neck.
There are companies that will insure your children for a few dollars a month. Gerber Life Insurance and Global Life Insurance are a few companies that insure children and adults rather cheaply. The point is: THY WILL BE DONE!
When my daughter died of pancreatic cancer in 2010, she did not have a will. She was married, I encouraged her to do a will when we found out she was terminally ill, but she and her husband never got around to do it I suppose. My husband and I had previously done a will, but we were in the process of updating our will. It was complete and all we needed to do was to sign it. Carelessly, we neglected to do that and just kept putting it off. After he was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, a couple of days before he had a heart attack and died, we called our lawyer to his bedside and had him sign off on his will. A witness from the law office was present at that time as well.
After the funeral and all the bills were paid, I took care of all of the business and documentation related to his passing, or so I thought! I did not remember, think about, received counsel regarding the fact that I needed to take his name off of the house deed!!! It is now almost five years since Tom's death, that I am now getting around to researching and gathering all the necessary paperwork to take to the probate court, so that, my name is the only name on the house deed.
Pastors, ministers, church leaders, we must do a better job of equipping our people. We are responsible for not only our congregants living, but their dying. We have to do more than just preach, teach, jump, shout, prophesy and speak in tongues. We have to teach people how to live when the tongues are done. We have to teach people how to live this abundant life here on earth as well as teach and instruct them in the things concerning their death.
The church should be involved in ministering to the spiritual, physical, social, emotional and psychological well-being of its people. One area should not exclude the other. There are other gifts that Christ has given the church. We know he gave Apostle, Prophet,s Pastors, Evangelist and Teachers, according to Ephesians 4:11. but there are other gifts and talents that God also has given to the church. These gifts may not involve preaching and teaching, but nevertheless, they are within our congregations and should be utilized!!!
We have people who are lawyers, doctors, social workers, physiologist, bankers, car dealer owners, school teachers, etc. All of these gifts are in the body of Christ too. We need to take a Holistic Look at how we do 21st Century Church. Yes, people are still getting saved and filled with the Holy Spirit, but too many folk are dying and leaving a path of confusion, frustration, and misery for those loved ones that are left behind. They are the ones that must clean up the issues that should have been taken care of prior to someones death. The Bible says: "He has given us everything that pertains to godliness and our living. 2 Peter 1:3.
Pastors, let's be intentional in how we provide leadership in this time and season. We must prepare our people for the end times. We must become the head and not the tail! God ain't mad at nobody for owning their own car dealership, grocery store chain, bank, retail outlet, strip mall, funeral home chain, etc. We must begin to have ownership and dominion in all of these area. That also would include, government, Wall Street, medicine, economics, manufacturing as well.
Think about it, Pastors, where will you people find refuge when all hell breaks out in the United States. When things get real bad, that is when the greatest influx in unbelievers will flood to the church. Will you be ready. Or are we still going to just be about planning our next revival, anniversary, tea and fashion show, etc.!!!!
We need a debt free church, we need debt free congregants, we need spirit filled lawyers, doctors, transit workers, social workers, funeral directors, super market owners, bankers, senators, representatives, mayors, governors, and the list goes on and on!!
I know I may have gotten off the topic a bit, but really, it is all connected. Again, we have to teach people how to live for Christ, and we have to instruct them in the common sense areas of our living and our dying. In all or our getting, we need to get understanding. God gives wisdom to help us to prosper, be in good health, and to prosper our souls as well. I hope these words did not make you angry, but will be a catalyst to spur you on to getting your affairs in order. I pray they will inspire you to talk to you spiritual leader about have a workshop or seminar on preparing a will and other estate planning activities.
Have a Blessed Day, and,
Don't Forget To Say Your Prayers!!!
