(Hebrews 12:1-6 NLT) 1. Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. 3Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people;c then you won’t become weary and give up. 4. After all, you have not yet given your lives in your struggle against sin. 5. And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children?d He said, "My child,e don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline, and don’t give up when he corrects you. 6. For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.”
I don't know anybody that doesn't love and enjoy getting something new, whether it is a new car, home, man/woman, pocketbook, dress, etc. Most of us have accumulated things in our homes and offices that are old and outdated. They and of no use in this present age of technology. Many of us have clothes in our closets that are two sizes too small for us, but we keep hanging onto them wishing and hoping that somehow we will lose the weight and get back into them. But if they have been there more than two or three years, chances are that you will not be putting your size 14 into a size 8 again!! Let's face it, give it up turn it loose and let it go.
Give it away to the "Good Will," or give them to the Salvation Army.
We are a people of hoarders! We don't like to get rid of things. Perhaps we feel that by storing up a lot of stuff it makes us feel important, prosperous, satisfied, you name it. But I have watched a few programs on network TV in which Oprah, Doctor Phil, or some other host have interviewed people who are hoarders. Oprah and Dr. Phil have taken cameras into these people's homes. They live in cluttered, horrible, disgusting conditions. Some of them don't remember how their lives got into such horrible shape. Many people cannot even find their beds to lay down in at night.
At the root of the problem lay some pretty serious psychosis that drives these individuals to store up material things that they do not need. Some women have saved hundreds of the same kinds of items, none of which they currently make use of. Obviously there is some type of infirmity, some kind of unresolved emotional dis-ease that these folks have not dealt with, come to grips with, or been delivered from. It is the enemy of our souls that wants to keep us bound up and repeating cycles and cycles of dysfunction; so that, we cannot see the awesome vision and purpose that God has for our lives.
But hear me today; God wants to shake us loose, to free us from the sin, weight, traps and negativity, that so easily paralyzes us, hold us back, keep us in cycles of bondage, hurt and pain!!!
Yesterday during part of our worship service, I told my members that God wants to give us new things for the new year. It is time to shed our old "Wine Skins" so to speak. God can't give us the new, when we refuse to let go of the old and the past. God wants to shake us free and loose of everything that is holding us up back from becoming that New Creation in Christ Jesus. He wants us to exercise the power and authority that was given us, by Jesus Christ when he went back to heaven and sat down at the right hand of the Father. We have the ability to command our day. We have the power to speak those things into existence that be not as though they are!
I played Vicki Winans song, "Shake Yourself Loose" yesterday during service. We actually got up and began to shake our bodies as if we were shaking off the past and ridding ourselves of everything that has been holding us hostage! We shouted, praised, worshiped and danced. Here are some of the words to the song:
Said you been bound up - Lookin’ for a way to break free
Devil’s had you tied up - Listen to these words from me
Your situation may seem hopeless but it’s not the end
Though you are burdened and have shackles on your feet
Now)... I... want you to know - You’re about to break loose (unison)
Jesus took the keys... and gave ‘em to you
(So...Here’s what you gotta do)
Shake loose... everything that binds you up - Who told you that you can’t make it
When God says that you can shake it - Shake loose... everything that binds you up
Praise Him like its your last chance - Get up and do the David dance
VERSE 2: (Solo)
I heard you were feeling down - That Satan had you bound
No you don’t have to stay - Yes, you can leave today
Just lika' in the bible days - When men began to pray
Those jail cells start to shaken - Those chains a start to breakin’
Don’t let the enemy keep you in bondage
Praise your way through - Come on and shake loose
Every worry, every care
Praise your way through - Come on and shake loose
The Bible teaches us that: "Whom the Son has set free, is free indeed." We do not have to stay in bondage, that is a choice that we as humans make of our own free will. But the Lord liberated us when He went to the cross to bear our sins in His own body. He became a curse for us, so that we through His shed blood and broken body, could become the righteousness of God.
As we begin this new year, let us throw off every hindering spirit, every weight that so easily wants to keep you and me locked up and bound up. And let us run with patience the race that is set before us. We know that we are more than conquerors through Christ our Lord. "SHAKE YOURSELF LOOSE" and watch God work miracles after miracles in 2014, the year of DOUBLE FAVOR!!!
God Bless You And: "Don't Forget To Say Your Prayers"
