There is a biological enigma called the "axoloti," that instead of maturing into adult form, this endangered Mexican salamander retains tadpole-like characteristics throughout its life. Writers and philosophers have used the axoloti as a symbol of someone who is fearful and makes the choice to remain in a child-like state, ignorant and immature. I read about this in today's Daily Bread booklet, so I thought I would add my 2 cents to it.
The writer of Hebrews was very frustrated with the church at this point. He remarked that he desired to speak to the people and teach them about weightier matters pertaining to the Priesthood of Jesus Christ and His kingdom, but the people were stuck! In verse 12 the writer, some say it might have been Paul, but we are not certain; but the writer says: "For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. V.13, "For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
there are many Christians that are merely content with just going to church! They really don't want anything from the Lord. Many are avoiding healthy growth, choosing rather, to remain stagnant, impotent, weak, unconcerned, and unchallenged to go onto maturity. These individuals are comfortable being on the "spiritual bottle of milk, " which was only intended for new believers.
The writer perceives that perhaps the people were afraid of the persecution that was now running rampant in the churches of "The Way," Therefore, they weren't growing in the faith that says: "I want to know Him in the power and in the fellowship of His suffering." Many saints want the power, but that "Suffering," component they can do without. But if you are a true follower of Jesus Christ, you must pick up your cross and follow Him, and to be a help and encouragement for someone else.
Instead the people were in danger of sliding backward from the Christ like attitudes they had already displayed. They were not ready for a solid diet of meat and vegetables; of self-sacrifice. so the author wrote, "We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer true to understand. Some figure that if I don't know, then I won't have to be accountable! We have many of those kind of people in the church today. If I don't know who to stay free from sin, they I can slip and slide in and out of salvation because "His Grace" gives me an out, keeps the fire of God from tearing up my backside.
The Writer and true apostles, pastors, evangelist, prophets, and teachers, want the body of Christ to move from the elementary tenets of the faith. They teach us so that we can know who we are in Christ. They teach us that we have been given the power and authority of Jesus Christ. They teach us how to rule in this present age, how to occupy, take dominion, and engage the enemy on his own turf. Through the power of pray, faith in God and authority of the Word and the Blood, we are not mere men and women. We have the supernatural power of the Holy one living on the inside of us.
Axolots follow the natural pattern set for them by their Creator. But those of the priesthood of Christ, are designed to grow into spiritual maturity. When and as we do, we will discover that growing up in Christ involves more than our own peace, joy, and material things. Real growth in His image brings honor to God as we unselfishly bless others in our path.
Lord Jesus, I want to grow up in you. I want to have a closer, deeper fellowship with you and the Holy Spirit. Please Lord, equip me, help me, teach me more and more each day to worship, serve, and appropriate the faith needed to carry out the call and purpose of my life. In Jesus Name, Amen.
The Daily Bread says: "THE MORE WE LIVE ON A DIET OF GOD'S WORD, THE MORE WE GROW.
PRAYER IS IMPORTANT SO: "DON'T FORGET TO SAY YOUR PRAYERS!!
