Our American diets are filled with sugars, additives, processed foods, meats. etc. Yet it is still possible to be eating large amounts of food, be overweight, and still be malnourished. In Dr. Colbert's book, "Toxic Relief, he states, "We may be actually starving from a nutritional standpoint, while at the same time becoming grossly obese....Sadly, we really are digging our graves with our forks and knives!"
With that in mind, it is easy to see how our physical bodies parallel our spiritual lives. We can become undernourished on a hefty diet of church programs and activities. they may be religious in nature, and packed with the traditional stuff that we do, and yet be severely undernourished when it comes to the deeper things of God. Do you know what Dr. Colbert refers to as the "single most effective answer to over nourishment?" "Fasting". He has found "more than anything else, fasting is the dynamic key to cleansing your body from a lifetime collection of toxins. Fasting reverses undernourishment and the diseases it brings and ensuring a wonderful future of renewed energy, vitality, longevity, and blessed health."
When You are hungry and thirsty for God, He will fill you. Jesus said, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled: (Matthew 5:6). When you begin to develop a hunger for the deeper things of God, He will fill you. However, sometimes just being in a good church service will leave you depraved and starving for more. I believe God is already raising up a generation of believers in this hour who do not want a diet of just "Church as Usual." People are praying, fasting and revival is breaking out in some unusual places across this land. The religious traditions that our churches have been holding to, are now going to have to yield to the thirsting and hungering voices of a people that are saying, "We are tired of the traditions of men making the Word of God of no effect." We want to see the glory of God. We are waiting for the sons of God to manifest the supernatural power of God in all its fullness.
Hungry people will push over the customs; they will push over the rituals, they will throw away the church program and lay prostrate on the floor until the Holy Spirit comes. They don't want a snack, when they can have the whole meal. Hungry folk are tired of religious people just slapping something together on Sunday morning and calling it "a church service!" Hungry people are tired of the praise team showing up to lead praise and worship, and before they begin, they give a disclaimer: "Ya'll pray for us, we didn't have a rehearsal, we're just going to do the best that we can do this morning!" No, the devil is a liar. Go somewhere and sit down! We don't need you cute praise songs. We don't want to listen to you UN-anointed jacked up singing. We don't want to smell your stank breath from last night's club experience!!! I know it's tight, but it's right.
Jesus found such a hunger and thirst while visiting Tyre and Sidon, that it curled His toes, lol (My words not found in the Bible). A woman whose daughter was possessed and tormented by a devil heard that He was there. But the woman was a Greek, "a Syro-Phoenician by birth" (Mark 7:26), and, therefore, outside of the covenant God had made with Israel. But that didn't matter to her. She was hungry, and her faith was persistent. Even when Jesus discouraged her saying: 27. “Let the children be fed first, for it is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” 28 But she answered him, “Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” 29 And he said to her, “For this statement you may zgo your way; the demon has left your daughter.” 30 And she went home and found the child lying in bed and the demon gone."
Many of the children He was describing, ( the household of Israel) who sat at the table, had not shown such great hunger. Jesus honored her request, and her daughter was healed because of her faith and perseverance.
The minute Jesus called us a dog, the conversation would have ended right there. We probably would have tucked our tails behind us and left dejected. Or some of our crazy kinfolk would have cussed at Jesus and then left saying: "How dare He insult me and my whole generation like that!" Who does He think He is anyway?"
But hungry people do desperate, unusual things. When they are hungry for the more of God, they will risk persecution, they will risk being talked about, they will risk having their sins exposed in public etc. This is the year that the saints are breaking out of religious rules, regulations, and traditional thinking. This is the season for breaking through to more of His presence and more of His power to turn situations around. The promises of God to the Believers make us hungry to witness more of His healing power and more of His miracle-working power! Only Jesus can satisfy your hunger soul and mine.
Psalm 42 King James Version (KJV) As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?
What a bout YOU? What are you hungry and thirsty for.? If your answer is the Lord, then do what I have learned to do: "Obey Your Thirst!"
And Please: " Don't Forget To Say Your Prayers!"
