The most recent gun shootings and murders which have occurred in this country; have been rendered at the hands children, teens and young adults. These crimes have happened in schools, a church, movie theatres, malls etc. in December of 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, 24 children and two adults were scattered and massacred at that school. The shooting happened in an upscale town, where something of this magnitude was least likely to take place. People were stunned and horrified to hear of such a vicious attack on the most feeble and innocent of our society. A mentally ill teenager shot these children and teachers down like an animal, actually worse than an animal. They were viciously and brutally massacred in the safety and comfort supposedly of their school.
“Why doesn’t the government do something?” you ask. “Why doesn’t the legislature and senate pass stricter gun laws?” Outcries and urgent pleas came from every segment of our society. But the stark truth behind all of these murders and violent crimes with children, teens, and young adults is: Governments don’t raise children, people do!
When these heartbreaking episodes happen we discover the same thing-violent videos! The latest school carnage began as a seed planted in the imagination of a boy left alone with video games in which the good guys is actually the bad guy, and winners blow away losers, leaving dismembered bodies in scenes of blood and gore.. “The stores shouldn’t be allowed to sell them!” Maybe! But storeowners report that the more violent and demonic the video, the better it sells. Think violence has become our children’s most popular form of entertainment. What does that say about us? As far as the folks who make such videos, the law protects them: We are not responsible!” Then who is? Parents! The Bible teaches that when we bring a child into this world we are responsible to give them:
(a) Love; parents must show and teach our children to love; otherwise they will seek it in all the wrong places.
(b) Law; for example rules to live by, including the rewards of keeping them and the consequences of breaking them.
(c) Light-give your children a taste of the things of God when they are young, and when they grow up the world will never satisfy them.
(d) Life; parents should walk with God and take you children with you. The most powerful argument for Christianity is a life you can’t explain without God.
