Today's Blog Topic: "the Importance of Spiritual Authority."
(Excerpts from Watchman Nees" Book, "Spiritual Authority")
All of the acts of God issue from His throne, and His throne is established on His authority, all things are created through God's authority and all physical laws of the universe are maintained by His authority. The Lord God upholds all things by the word of the power of His authority, God's authority represents God Himself whereas His power stands only for His act. Sin against power is more easily forgiven than sin against authority, because the latter is a sin against God Himself. God alone is authority in all things; all the authorities of the earth are instituted by God
. Authority is a tremendous thing in the universe-nothing overshadows it. It is therefore imperative for us who desire to serve God to know the authority of God
The archangel, Satan overreached God's authority, competed with God, and thus became an adversary of God. Rebellion was the cause of Satan's fall. both Isaiah and Ezekiel speak of the rise and fall of Satan. (Isaiah. 14:12-15 & Ezekiel 38:13-17.)
The first passages emphasizes how Satan violated God's authority while the second passage stresses his trespassing against God's holiness. To offend God's authority is a rebellion far more serious than that of offending God's holiness. Since it is a matter of conduct, sinning is more easily forgiven than rebellion. The latter being a matter of principle. Satan's intent on setting his throne above the throne of God was the thing which violated God's authority; it was the principle of self-exaltation. The act of sinning was not the cause of Satan's fall; that act was but the product of his rebellion against authority. it was rebellion which God condemned.
Therefore my brother and my sister, those of us who serve a leader whose authority we must submit to; In serving God or His designee, we must not violate authorities because to do so is a principle of the Satan. How can we preach Christ according to Satan's principle? Yet it is possible in our work to stand with Christ in doctrine while at the same time stand with Satan in principle. How very twisted, wicked of us to assume that we are doing the work of the Lord. Please take note that Satan is not afraid of our preaching, teaching, our tongues, yet how very much is he in fear of our being subject to the authority of Christ and the leadership He has placed over our lives!
It is so important that we know that we do not obey man, but God's authority in that man!! We are definitely on the wrong road if we meet man or woman first, before we obey authority. The opposite is the right way. We must meet Authority in that man or woman first. then we will not mind who the man or woman is.
God has purposed to manifest His authority in the earth through the church. God's authority can be seen in the coordination of the various members of the body of Christ. God intentionally maintains the utmost authority of His church.; therefore His authority is the hardest thing to come up against.
We who are so self-righteous and yet so blind need to have a "come To Jesus Moment!" For once in our life we need to encounter God's authority so that we may be broken unto submission and begin to learn obedience to the authority of God. Think about it, recall the Scriptures! That is precisely what Jesus did. "Jesus who, existed in the form of God, counted not the being on an equality with God at thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of man becoming obedient even unto death, yea, the death of the cross. Wherefore also God highly exalted him, and gave unto him the name which is above every name; that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things on earth and things under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. ( Philippians 2:5-11). When did God exalt Christ? It was after He obeyed and submitted to His Father's will.
Before a man or woman can subject himself to God's delegated authority he must first meet God's inherent authority. That's what happened to Paul on the Damascus Road. He kicked against the goads (God's authority). He immediately fell to the ground and acknowledged Jesus as Lord. Afterwards, Saul had to submit to the authority in Ananias, so that he could lay hands on him and open not just his physical but spiritual eyesight as well.
We should never serve God according to the principle of Satan. Whenever the principle according to Christ is in operation, that which is of Satan must fall. Jehovah Nissi, is the banner that watches over us. If we would truly serve God we must be completely purified from the principle of Satan. Acts of rebellion against God given authorities is as witchcraft in His sight.
