BLOG TOPIC: HAVE YOU EVER BEEN BACKED UP?
This morning during my writing devotional time, this thought came across my mind! I thought to myself, “Wow where did that come from.” It had nothing to do with my journal entry, my meditation, or prayer time. It just came into my mind out of the blue. I wrote down a few phrases in my book such as: “Are you backed up? Do you have a backup? Have you ever had your back up against a wall? Do you have any people baking you up? Do you need some financial back up? Does the quilt on your bed have a backing on it? There were so many idioms, descriptions and verb usage for the word “Back- up or Backed-up.
So I decided to google the word and here is what I came up with. There are certainly more definitions, but these 8 or 9 will suffice in order to make my point, whatever that is! Lol.
If someone or something backs up a statement, they supply evidence to suggest that it is true.

9. to be backed up = to be constipated
Now, with all that said and done, let’s see if we can come up with something here that we can apply to our lives. Let’s just eliminate that definition that relates to constipation. There are drugs that will help those of us that have experienced being backed up to the point of needing a laxative. Lol. Oh second thought, this just hit my spirit: when you are blocked up like that, it makes you lethargic, nauseous, irritable, and unproductive. You are miserable! If you eat anything, it makes you more blotted. You need some relief! So you do whatever mama told you to do as a youngster. You take some medicine, to make you go, or you drink lots of water.
The point is that anything that blocks the flow, from either end, is a distraction, it doesn’t produce the fruit that a free flowing spirit needs to produce in order to have thrive; whether it is an idea, a business, a book, an invention, ministry, relationship etc. We need to be free of any obstruction. We need to be producers of good and not of evil. We need to be problem solvers; we need to work efficiently to our highest level, caliber in the secular world and in ministry, so don’t get BACKED UP/CONSTIPATED. LOL. Moving right along:
If you are an adult of working age, many of you can identify with being backed up in your finances. A lot of us have more end of the month than we have money left to pay our bills. Staying current will my monthly bills has been a challenge for me, particularly now that I am retired and without the assistance of husband.
If you are in a secular job, or in ministry like me, we hope that there will be people in our circle to support our careers, business endeavors, relationships and ministry. Some of us look for our friends and co-workers to at least participate in our programs, and periodically sow a seed into our ministry. Unfortunately, those that are sometimes the closest to you are the very ones who shun you or say, “God Bless You,” and keep it moving. You have to know that your backing, you chief cheerleader is Jesus Christ. He is the one that you absolutely must depend upon. And often, to tell the truth about it, you must do like David did when he and his men lost everything at Ziklag. He had to encourage himself in the Lord. He had to know that things would not end this way, and that God was setting him up for a comeback.
Rather than seeking the backing of people, we need to make sure that God is pleased with our lives and ministry. People seem to be in such a need for validation in the Body of Christ. When the Apostle Paul was given the mandate to take the Gospel to the Gentiles, he did not confer with his flesh, he did not go up to get the approval from the chief apostles like Peter, James and John. He was in the desert of Arabia, he allowed the Holy Spirit to lead, guide, direct and teach him what he needed in order to be the Apostle to the Gentile nations. Paul, who was no longer Saul, knew that he needed the anointing of God to convince the disciples of his changed life and changed mind. Paul knew that he had to have the power and demonstration of the spirit through miracles, signs and wonders in order to draw the Gentiles to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Deep within the human spirit, there is a power that keeps pushing us forward even in the midst of obstruction, disappointment, crisis, peril, dysfunction etc. For Christians, it is the spirit that gives us life. The resurrection power of the living God is inside of us. We may fall down seven times, we may fall backwards, but there is something within that helps us to get “Back Up” on our feet, and this power urges us onward. We cannot retreat; God gave us his armor to wear. This armor covers our front and not our back. We are to run towards victory, and not run backward with our tails tucked between our knees. Giving up and turning back is definitely a decision. But I have decided to forge ahead!
Waiting in long lines, particularly when the traffic is “backed up,” is no fun. This generation is very impatient. But good things come to those who wait. “Wait on the Lord and be of good courage, and he will strengthen your heart.” (Psalm 27:14). We must wait until the door of opportunity opens. If the back door is closed and the door ahead has not opened yet, “PRAISE HIM IN THE HALLWAY, UNTIL HE OPENS THE DOOR!”
Don’t become impatient, don’t try to back your way into something that God has not validated or allowed.
David was anointed king as a young lad, (1 Samuel 16:1-13), but he had to wait until he was 30 years to become King over Israel. He had to go through years of stress, rejection, being pursued by King Saul, who repeatedly tried to kill him. David had opportunities to kill King Saul, but he wouldn’t. He told his buddies that he could not touch God’s anointed, and that God would take care of him in His time. Eventually, when the timing was right, David became king over Judah first and then he became king over all Israel (2 Samuel chapter 5).
When David became king over all Israel, he had the FULL BACKING OF JEHOVAH GOD. David accomplished great feats, the economy grew, the temple worship was off the chain, the people were at rest with their enemies for a season, and he acquired more wives and had more children. Lol.
I know that I used quite a few words with the word “Back up, of Backing,” I hope you were able to glean something from this blog post. I would appreciate it if you would drop me a not on Link-in or on FB. Let me know how these blogs have helped you. God Bless and don’t forget to say your prayers.
