Today is on of those days on the calendar that most adult Americans dread! It is April 15, which means it is the deadline to filing you state and federal taxes for the 2015 year. Some of us have already filed their taxes, but those that do so are pretty sure that they are going to get a return; and have something special in their minds, that they want to do with the extra money. I file early, because I expect to be blessed with a little extra finances to do house repairs, buy an airline ticket to South Carolina to visit my Mom, or buy that pair of shoes or dress that has been marked down significantly right before the spring and summer lines of clothing arrives.
In this text, Hezekiah got news that was unexpected. The news didn't come from one of his haters!!! the news wasn't brought to him from a family member of friend, that may have got the message twisted. the news came from Israel's trusted Prophet. Isaiah, had been chosen by God to prophesy to Israel at a time when they were doing everything they were big and bad enough to do. Isaiah was raised up to prophesy and tell them to get back to serving the true and living God. His message was one full of judgment because of their continued immorality and idolatry.
However, Hezekiah was one of the more righteous kings in Judah. He worked hard throughout his reign to stamp our idol worship and to purify the worship of the true God at the Jerusalem Temple. He restored Passover celebration. He had sown seeds of righteousness and the Lord took note of sacrifice. He had some prayers stored up, he had some assets that were set aside. His faithfulness, wisdom, and devotion to The Lord was recorded in heaven. So when the Prophet came to him to tell him of the death sentence decreed over his life, the Bible says, "He turned his face to the wall and said, "Lord Remember Me!"
This is not funny, but every year when it is almost time to prepare my taxes, I go before the Lord and say, "Lord remember me!!! You know that I ain't got time for no drama from the State of CT. and the Federal Gov. I will not be paying them anything this year. Lord, remember how I have walked upright before you. Lord, remember my faithfulness, Lord, remember the seeds, tithes, offerings, love, generosity that I have sown to You and others, you have sent me too!!!
I EXPECT THE FAVOR OF GOD. I EXPECT TO BE HEARD. I EXPECT A RETURN ON MY PRAYERS, I EXPECT A RETURN FINANCIALLY!!!! WHY, BECAUSE IF YOU SOW FINANCES, YOU SHALL REAP FINANCES, IF YOU SOW LOVE, YOU SHALL REAP LOVE. WHATEVER SEEN YOU SOW, THAT IS THE FRUIT THAT WILL COME UP!!!
There are times when I have needed a miracle, a financial miracle. There are times when I have needs a physical healing, an emotional healing, a delivering healing in my body or in the life of someone close to me. I reminded the Lord of my faithfulness. It was like saying: "Lord, look at my account. I have some deposits, I have some assets, my record isn't all bad, and have mercy on me!! But guess what? If you do not have any deposits in heaven, if all of your assets are frozen in heaven, if you have just been living to yourself and not concerned about the things of God and others, you cannot expect to receive a "WITHDRAWAL."
When tax time comes around ladies and gentlemen, you just may have to pay up!!! Yes, there are times when the tax system gets to all of us and we find that we owe the government. But there are things that we can do, to prevent them from running roughshod over your and me. There is that little word called, "Deductions." that word is my Friend. Lol. Just like anything else, we need to do our do diligence to know what steps we can take to take as many deductions as possible to help us out at tax time.
Hezekiah had some deductions, assets, deposits that he could point to in order to reduce or cancel his sentence. Before the prophet could reach the porch, the Lord told him to go back. "I have heard Hezekiah's prayer. Tell him I have added 15 more years to his life." That was some great news to a man that just had the premier Prophet of the land, tell him, "The Lord said, you're gonna die."
And the Lord gave him a sign, that what he had spoken through the Prophet, Isaiah, that this healing would take place. You can read about it in chapter 38 in verse 7. God is a God of judgment, but He is also a God of Mercy!!! He is patient and longsuffering. There are times in the Bible when He changed His mind!!! Some folk didn't get the punishment they deserved. Some repented and the Lord did not kill them. In other cases, he spared the individual, but the family or a member received the punishment that the parent was spared.
I know that this message lacks exegital congruency. It is not perfect. That is not my point in writing this blog. My point is this: There are times that you have to, "Speak what you desire and not look at the facts." You have to expect God to bless you.
